A Forgotten Changeling...?
Wow. I was just clicking through www.spiderwick.com when I came across this comment on one of the posts in "blog":Name: hiQuestion: My personality is just like a changling, exept I do not speek in riddles. Am I one that has just forgotten
TD: Whoa! Do you have an aversion to red? Or iron? Do you long to explore the woods, never to return home again? Then perhaps, you just might be a changeling…though would a changeling like using technology like a computer? hmmmmm.O_O Hi (I doubt that's his real name) really thinks he's a changeling that has forgotten! A changeling is one of the creatures in Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide. Here's some information on changelings from Arthur Spiderwick's Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You:Changelings are creatures from the Invisible World that have taken on the form of a human, usually a child, while that person is carried away to live among the faeries. Elves and pixies are most commonly the culprits, either leaving behind one of their own to grow up among mortals or leaving a piece of wood enchanted to look like the mortal that was stolen. Sometimes the changeling will fake its own death or mysteriously disappear in order to rejoin its own family (now one member larger with the addition of a human brother or sister).
A changeling:- may have a tail
- may have a hunched back
- may have a withered appearance, even if very young
- may have a grayish or greenish tone to their skin
- will eat differently from a regular child. Although they can consume enormous quantities, some are very picky and will refuse to eat anything but uncooked vegetables or flowers.
- 's nails and hair grow long quite quickly, adding to the strangeness or the changeling's overall appearance.
The fey folk cry and laugh at inappropriate times and say unexpected and strange things. A person that speaks entirely in singsong or riddles is probably a changeling. Changelings are often precocious for their age and will ask and answer sophisticated questions but will seem unfamiliar with common devices.
Occasionally a changeling will grow up with a mortal family and his or her odd characteristics will diminish, until even te faerie forgets it is not human.
Can you believe "Hi" thinks he's a forgotten changeling? So cute. Holly Black and Tony diTerlizzi are thinking about changing the cover of the field guide, so it means if they decide to, and if I want it, I have to spend another RM69.90 on it. I hope they don't change it!
I want to get Tithe: A Modern Faerie Tale by Holly Black, but it's not a book for young children, they say. Hmm...
