There Are No Happy Endings
The prank on Calvin was so much fun (see Jan 25 post)! Too bad we can't do it again. Like Melinda said, he'll be more cautious now. And whose phone could we use, anyway?Anyway, I just finished reading the third book in a trilogy by Kai Meyer, titled The Glass Word. It's really nice, but the ending wasn't what I had expected - it was SAD! It'll take really long to explain everything, because it's a trilogy and I'd have to start from the beginning, so I'll just try to summarize it.Um... okay. For some reason, an orphan called Merle had to drink the essence of the Flowing Queen, someone - or thing - who protected Venice from the Egyptians since who-knows-when. The Flowing Queen could speak through Merle's mouth to other people, and she also could speak to Merle in her mind. Merle learned to control it and stop the FQ from using her mouth to speak after some time, and she also learned to speak to the FQ in her mind without moving her lips and making any sound. And now we'll skip to the third book. The Flowing Queen - real name, Sekhmet, a lion goddess or whatever - has to fight with her son and lover (the Son of the Mother). I know it's gross. She borne a whole race of people (the sphinxes) with her son/lover. She says it's different since he was the son of a ray of moonlight or whatever.
To fight with him to prevent the world from beind destroyed, or something, she has to go back into her old body, which means she has to leave Merle, who, by the way, is no longer an orphan since she has a mom. Her mother is a sphinx called Lalapeya. Merle was kinda fine with it until the Flowing Queen told her that if she left her, she, Merle, would die. The Flowing Queen could pass through bodies without killing people, but since her old body (Sekhmet's body) was dead, she needed some life to go back into her own body. She had to take Merle's life.
Then Junipa, Merle's friend with mirror-glass eyes and a heart replaced with a shard of the Stone Light, offered to give her life for her, because at least Merle had something to live for - Serafin (he's not a dog, by the way. He's her... Well, they like each other. But Merle's wouldn't let her. Serafin offered to do it, but Merle wouldn't let him either. Then as she was about to do it, Serafin (again, he's not a dog - he's a boy), kissed her. And when they stopped kissing, she realized what he had done. She called for the Flowing Queen in her mind but there was no answer.
Then the Flowing Queen spoke through Serafin's mouth and said he was very brave and all that. It turns out that the FQ went into Serafin's body through the kiss. Merle was really shocked, but her body became weak and tired because of the change, so she couldn't do anything. And the last thing she saw before she fell asleep was Serafin's face close to hers, very pale and eyes closed. Then he touched the dead body of Sekhmet, and the Flowing Queen went into her old body. And when Merle woke up, Serafin was dead.
So sad!! I know what you're thinking, PaulLyn, so FYI I didn't cry. Lol. And then I was thinking, as I read the third book, why don't I remember anything much happening in the second book? Then I realized that I didn't even finish reading the second book yet, and felt like hitting myself. I am so stupid! I have to read the second book now.
I gotta go already. Byeee~
